Tour Of Spain – La Vuelta a Espana

La Vuelta A Espana – Held in Sept

Pronounced “Lar welta esparnia”.  La Vuelta just means to ‘go around’ similar to ‘giro’ in Italian. There are  ’La Vuelta’ races in South America also but being one of the three Grand Tours this one is almost always simply called ’La Vuelta’ .
One of the features of La Vuelta a Espania are the extreme gradient climbs. Very often the riders have to race up mountain pathways – they aren’t even proper roads. Large sections of the steepest climbs exceed 20% and 24% is not uncommon.
Add to this the heat which regularly exceeds 35 degrees and you have riders knocking off 12 bottles of drink in a single race and still struggling to finish.

Unfortunately the official website information is quite poor. There isn’t even a decent map of the different stages.
It is available in English but for the best information it is best to click on these links to Cycling Mag. Com
